Space House

One Kemble Street and Civil Aviation Authority House, originally known jointly as Space House, is an architecturally notable building in the London Borough of Camden. It is a grade II listed building with Historic England. The project will extensively refurbish both buildings to create 255,000 sq ft of office space.

Client: BAM

Project Value: £6.3m

Date of Completion: 2022

Space House is a large-scale project holding multiple challenges over many differing levels, including infilling and extending the sixteen-story rotunda by two floors, infilling all the service voids and lightwells to gain further space for development, and infilling and building modification to the office facing onto The Strand Underpass on approach road A200.

We took possession of the site in early January 2022 making it safe from the previous enabling contractor. The works are progressing with the demolition within the Rotunda over a live electrical switch gear that feeds the main central line at Holborn and Retail Areas. The extensive temporary works have been designed by our expert in-house team, ensuring the stability of the Rotunda during further structure removal, with infilling and construction works due to follow after.
